Dunvegan Remembers
Role: Director, Camera Operator, Editor
Duration: 3′
This is part of a much longer film documenting the commemoration of both World Wars in Dunvegan. It was quite an achievement to bring so many people together from the different branches of the armed services; HM Coastguard; Army and Navy Cadets and the Royal British Legion.
This was a two camera ‘run and gun’ type shoot and meant always being on the ball to keep up with the planned schedule. A long day but very rewarding.
Did you know something I learnt that day? – Many young men from the Highlands wanted to join up as a means of escape from crushing poverty but were refused because of the state of their teeth. Nutrition at the time was so poor that for many, their teeth would have been rotten by the time they reached adulthood, which in turn meant they wouldn’t have been able to eat the biscuits issued as part of daily rations.
